ENVIRONMENTAL ARTS CHALLENGE

The theme for the 2023 Environmental Arts Challenge was to design a project to represent D100. The parameters were to fit inside a 36”x36”x42”h case. We had to use our waste and recycled trash from our department. To represent D100, I designed our art piece showcasing the iconic castle that is featured in the intro shot of many classic Disney films. It is also a way to celebrate and represent the Resort Enhancement department.

The same geometric triangles used in the marketing material for the merchandise sold during D100 was incorporated into the base design.

I wanted to design a project that could easily be worked on by a team. Each section was meticulously thought through and drawn in CAD so that each team member could work independently allowing each section to fit like a puzzle piece.

Taking inspiration from Frank Gehry’s cardboard chairs, the segmented castle was built from stacking cardboard from our recycle bin.

It’s all in the details

Each cut was measured precisely, and each flag was cut by hand. We were able to adhere scrap D100 fabric for the flags of the castle.

Team work

Each piece came together and fit like a puzzle piece. We made it to the top 10 and we were showcased in front of Stage 17 at Disney’s California Adventure.
